  3. Place where Álvaro Gonçalves and Pero Coelho were executed for killing Inês de Castro, King Pedro's long term mistress. [Pedro, ch. 31: 81-101]
  4. One of King Fernando's and Queen Leonor Teles's preferred places of residence with a palace and large gardens.
  5. King Fernando chose to be buried in the Convent of St. Francis in Santarém, though his tomb is now in the Archeological Museum of Carmo, Lisbon.
