- Keeper of the King's Wardrobe (Reposteiro-mor) to King João I of Portugal. In this he succeeded his father-in-law, João Esteves de Azambuja, and subsequently was succeeded by his own son, Álvaro Pires de Távora. [See 7 (c) below.]
- Accompanied King João I in the siege of Monção, where he was wounded by an arrow. [João2, ch. 134]
- Accompanied King João I and his sons in the expedition to Ceuta (1415) as the commander of a galley.
