Fernando Afonso de Albuquerque

  1. (c. 1330-1387) Illegitimate son of João Afonso de Albuquerque, 6th Lord of Alquequerque, known as "o do Ataúde", and of Maria Rodrigues Barba.
  2. Master of the Order of Santiago in Portugal, according to Fernão Lopes, owing to the influence of Queen Leonor Teles.
  3. In 1384 he went to Lisbon as a show of support for the Master of Avis, Regent and Defender of the kingdom of Portugal. Since then, and throughout the 1383-1385 crisis, the Castle of Palmela and the Order of Santiago remained faithful to the Master of Avis, future João I of Portugal.
