- He was Archbishop of Lyon, Cardinal of St. Cecile, and Cardinal-Bishop of Porto and Santa Rufina, Italy..
- He served as papal legate with several peace missions between warring monarcs in Western Europe. Served the Avignon Papacy for over thirty years.
- Between 1359-1361 he was the papal legate attempting an end to the war between Castile and Aragon.
