- Municipality in the province of Salamanca, autonomous community of Castilla y León, not far from the Portuguese border.
- Its name derives from 'hinojo', fennel, hence 'Hinojosa' as this was a place abundant in fennel.
- Fernão Lopes calls it 'Feolhossa', because in medieval times the place was known as 'Finoiosa', as 'finoio' or 'fenoyo' was the word for fennel in Leonese. Fennel is 'fiolho' in Portuguese.
