Fondi

  1. City in the province of Latina, Lazio, modern central Italy.
  2. Town about twenty miles  distant from Anagni. In the late fourteenth century the Count of Fondi, Onorato Caetani, controlled both towns. 
  3. At the onset of the Great Western Schism, the dissident cardinals met in both towns to arrange for the annulment of Urban VI's election. Cardinal Robert of Geneva  was elected in Fondi in September 1378.
  4. Fernão Lopes's sources may not have been very clear about these places, as he assumes that Fondi is a county. (IM)
