  1. Although in the SW coast of France, in the 1350's/60's  Bayonne owed fealty to  the King of England, therefore it is correct to refer to it as an English territory during this period. (PK)
  2. Edward the Black Prince and John of Gaunt spent there considerable time preparing their military campaigns on the continent.
  3. City on the western French coast, not far from modern northern Spain.
