- (c.1330-1406) Known as 'le Bègue', the Stammerer of Vilaines. A person of humble origins as a member of the lesser nobility in France, is latter appointed high office: Senescal of Toulouse and Carcassone (1360-1362); Chamberlain to Charles V and Charles VI of France.
- Becomes one of the famous personal counsellors of Charles VI, known as the "Marmousets" (1388).
- Hero of the Hundred Years War and companion of Bertrand Du Guesclin.
