- Married Doña Mayor, widow of Fernán Becerra. Fernão Lopes considers Juan Fernández lower in rank to his wife, who is described as an elegant noble woman. They had five children: Sancha, Teresa, Inés, Isabel and Ruy de Andeiro, who became principal page to the King of Castile. [Fernando: ch.134]
- Galician nobleman who, together with several other vassals of the murdered Pedro I of Castile, sought exile in Portugal and encouraged King Fernando to wage war on Castile and remove the usurper Enrique II from the throne. - (1371-1381) Became ambassador of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, pretender to the Castilian throne, who held a Castilian court in exile at the Savoy palace, London. The claim was made in the name of his second wife, Constanza, daughter of the murdered Pedro I of Castile.
- Ambassador of King Fernando of Portugal, whose secret negotiations in the Queen's chambers and close relationship with Queen Leonor Teles led to accusations of adultery.
- Fernão Lopes explains that when João Afonso Telo 1st Count of Ourém died, Queen Leonor Teles, the Count's niece, asked that his estate and title be passed on to Juan Fernandez de Andeiro. From then on, he is known as João Fernandes, Count of Ourém. [Fernando, ch. 134]
- Was killed by João, Master of Avis, the future King João I of Portugal, at the onset of the 1383-1385 dynastic crisis and popular revolution. [João1, ch. 1-10]
