Gonçalo Peres Canelas

  1. Treasurer of the city of Lisbon (1371-1372). 
  2. Appointed by King Fernando of Portugal as one of the first two executives of "Companhia das Naus", a maritime company established by the monarch in order to minimize losses and replace ships lost at sea (1380).
  3. The company functioned as an insurance company mainly for large trade ships, of over 42 tons, known as 'carracks' .
