Arnaut-Bernard IV de Preissac, Soudan de La Trau

  1. Gascon knight fighting at the side of the Black Prince at the battle of Poitiers (1356), and at the side of the Prince and of Pedro of Castile at Nájera (1367).
  2. He also served under John of Gaunt, the Duke of Lancaster, and of Lord John Chandos (1370-1371).
  3. The title of 'Soudan' actually means governor, as he was the Governor of the castle of La Trau.
  4. Accompanied Edmund, Earl of Cambridge, in his expedition to Portugal (1381) to assist King Fernando in his third war against Castile. He was a Gascon local lord responsible for some 200 soldiers in Cambridge's army (Pépin, 2014, pp. 43-47).
  5. Became a kingh of the Garter in 1384.
