- (1328-1323) Born of a distinguished Aragonese noble family. Son of Juan Martínez de Luna and María Pérez de Gotor.
- Elevated to Cardinal-deacon of St. Mary of Cosmedín in 1375.
- Participated in the 1378 conclaves that elected Urban VI and the Antipope Clement VII.
- Proposed an end to the Great Schism, should he be elected pope, by abdicating and asking for the deposition of the Pope.
- At the coclave of 1394, Pero de Luna was elected, becoming Antipope Benedict XIII.
- He was deposed in 1409 by the Council of Pisa and in 1417 by the Council of Constance, but refuted both depositions.
