  1. Trumpet; long trumpet; herald's trumpet.

  3. Silver or brass musical instrument consisting of a long tube, often over one meter long, ending in a flare. Medieval trumpets did not have the S shape that characterized them after the Barroque period.
  4. During the reign of King Pedro of Portugal, silver trumpets were also known as 'longas'. His favourite trumpeters, whom he often called to play the longas, were João Mateus and Lourenço Palos.
