- Postern gate.
- Secondary gate in a city or castle walls, usually in an inconspicuous location, allowing people to come in and out quietly and without attracting attention. These could be very useful in a siege, allowing supplies to be brought in, or messages to be sent out, but they could also be used to let the enemy in. For this reason they are called "porta da traição" (traitors' gate) in Portuguese.
