  3. Dona Inês de Castro is referred as a sobrinha of King Pedro of Portugal, because she was the daughter of one of the king's blood cousins. She had the same great-grandfather as Pedro of Portugal, which was King Afonso III of Porugal. For that reason, a dispensation from the Pope was required for Inês and Pedro to be married.   1. Berber dynasty from Morocco, from the Arabic ' Marīnyiūn' or 'Banū Marīn'.
  2. The Marinid dynasty gained supremacy  in Marocco from 1215 when the Banu Marin attacks the ruling Almohads. On occasions they intervene in the Iberian Peninsula, either being defeated in the decisive battle of Salado, which brought together three Christian kings, or aiding the king of Granada, or even Pedro of Castile, agains other Christian kingdoms.
