Talavera (de la Reina)

  1. Medieval city, castle and bishopric in the province of Toledo, autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha in central modern Spain.
  2. City given to Maria of Portugal by Alfonso XI of Castile on the occasion of their marriage (1328). Since then it was caled Talavera de la Reina.
  3. Place where Leonor Núñez de Guzmán was imprisoned and eventually executed by order of Queen Maria, widow of Alfonso XI of Castile, Leonor's former lover (1351). [Pedro, ch. 17: 78-81]
  4. The city and bishopric of Talavera and Jaén , and the cities of Cuenca, Córdoba and Toledo are held in the name of Blanche of Bourbon against Pedro of Castile unless he agrees to return to her side and abandon his mistress, María de Padilla, as well as the interests of her relatives.
