  1. Castle of Rocha, South of Pontevedra, Western Galicia.
  2. This castle was a symbol of the power of the archbishopric of Santiago of Compostela. It was strong, well defended, and the place where the archbishop kept his wealth.
  3. The castle is situated on the convergence of two rivers, the Sar and the smaller stream of Villar, which offered a privileged position to guard and monitor the pilgrimage route from Portugal, and the southern  region of the Iberian Peninsula, to Santiago.
  4. Pedro of Castile took possession of the archbishopric's wealth after killing Archbishop Suero Gómez de Toledo and his deacon Pero Álvarez (1366). [Pedro, ch. 40: 25-35]
