- Medieval town and castle in the province of Badajoz, autonomous community of Extremadura, Western modern Spain.
- The castle had been given to João Afonso Telo, but when he went to Portugal after an argument with the young Pedro I of Castile, despite assurances that all his estates would be assured, the king besieged and took Medellín and the destroyed the castle (1354). [Pedro, ch. 17: 110-115]
- At a later date, Prince Sancho Alfonso of Castile, brother of Enrique II of Castile, became the 1st Count of Alburquerque and reconstructed the castle.
