  • Also: Medelim
  1. Medieval town and castle in the province of Badajoz, autonomous community of Extremadura, Western modern Spain.
  2. The castle had been given to João Afonso Telo, but when he went to Portugal after an argument with the young Pedro I of Castile, despite assurances that all his estates would be assured, the king besieged and took Medellín and the destroyed the castle (1354). [Pedro, ch. 17: 110-115]
  3. At a later date, Prince Sancho Alfonso of Castile, brother of Enrique II of Castile, became the 1st Count of Alburquerque and reconstructed the castle.
