1. Territory and name derived from Aquitaine, which came to the English crown when Henry II gained possession of his wife Eleanor's domains. Eventually, they acquired different meanings. 
2. The Duchy of Guyenne only become a territory of the King of France in 1453. Prior to that it was a duchy in vassalage to the King of England. (CW)
