John XXII, Pope

  1. (1249-1334) Pope of the Avignon Papacy, enthroned in 1316. Born Jacques  Cahors d'Euse, in Cahors, France.
  2. Sends papal bull to Afonso IV of Portugal with a dispensation so that Pedro, his heir, can marry any Christian woman even someone with close ties of kinship. [Pedro, ch. 28: 87-115]
  3. The bull has the date of the ninth year of Pope John XXII's pontificate, i.e. 1325. Prince Pedro was then five years of age.
