Viseu

  1. City on the edge of the central range of mountains known as 'Serra da Estrela', Portugal.
  2. The cathedral dates from the 12th century, in the reign of Afonso Henriques, first king of Portugal. The office of Bishop of Viseu was one of the most prestigious religous offices in the kingdom.
  3. Some of the greatest treasures of the cathedral are the paintings by Grão Vasco, who introduced the Renaissance style in Portugal at the turn of the 16th century.
