Juan Fernández de Henestrosa

  1. (1320-1359) Grand Chamberlain to King Pedro of Castile.
  2. Occasionally referred to by Fernão Lopes as Pedro Juan Fernández de Henestrosa. [Pedro, ch. 17: 125-126]
  3. Maternal uncle of María de Padilla, King Pedro of Castile's lover for many years.
  4. Responsible for the transfer of Blanche of Bourbon, Pedro of Castile's shunned and imprisoned wife, from the castle of Arévalo to the alcázar of Toledo. In the event, he did not succeed because the queen asked to pray at a local church and then refused to leave. The people of Toledo then took pity on her, not wanting her to be killed in their city, and called for the assistance of Don Fadrique, Master of Santiago, Enrique, Count of Trastámara, João Afonso de Albuquerque and Fernán de Castro, all of them having already rebelled against King Pedro. [Pedro, ch. 17: 125-141]
  5. Killed in battle in Moncayo trying to stop an Aragonese incursion led by Enrique Count of Trastámara, his brother Tello Alfonso and many Aragonese forces. [Pedro, ch.25: 32]
