Rio Tinto

  1. Present day town in the Concelho de Gondomar, District of Porto. It had a convent of  Agostinian nuns endowed with a "couto" by King Afonso Henriques in 1141, which was extinct in 1535.
  2. Martim Afonso de Sousa on the eve of the battle of Aljubarrota vowed to spend time with his lover, the Abbess of Rito Tinto, if he survived the day. [CDJI, ii, ch.37]
